What did you study in school and why?
I studied communications in school. I was always interested in media and I enjoyed learning about media representation, and everything else that came with the major. I have a masters in journalism. I wanted to learn how to shoot and edit, and I felt, I needed more school to get a job in the field I wanted.
What is your job/career?
I’m a social media editor, I manage Complex, Twitter and Facebook.
What is a challenge you faced or currently face and how are you overcoming it?
One of the biggest challenges for me was moving to a different state, trying to find a job I enjoyed, making enough money to survive in NYC. Luckily I’ve always had a supportive family who has been there for me and encouraged me even when I doubted myself. Also, the relationships I have made here have helped the whole process.
What does it mean for you to be powerful?
Being powerful means taking control of your life, doing what you love, and being confident. I also believe being powerful is acknowledging you don’t know everything and always trying to learn, grow and be better.
Do you have a favorite product or item you love that makes you feel great?
Always changes, but right now, my face moisturizer, Embryolisse.
What are your passions, hobbies, interests?
I love to travel, haven’t been able to as much but learning new cultures, eating different foods is something I love to do.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
Advise for anyone trying to get into this field is to keep the connections you make even interning. A lot of people stay in media and grow with you, I still regularly talk to all my friends I interned with and we have all helped each other in lots of different things.
